Congratulations on the Voice publication which I think is a great newsletter
summarising what is going on in our area.
I was, however, totally astounded to read that there is a possibility of the
parish wasting money on the Mill Lane bridge by considering putting traffic
lights there. I use that route every day at peak times and have only ever
seen one mother with a pushchair walking along there (occasionally). The road
is fine just as it is; the small amount of traffic flows with little problems
every day. GX does not need even more traffic lights for goodness
sake.
There are far more priority calls on parish money surely i.e.
removing the ridiculous traffic 'calming' island along east common. Now that
really DOES cause real dangers all day and every day.

Thank you for your positive comments about our latest
newsletter, which has been well received by our residents.
The safety of pedestrians on Mill Lane bridge has been an ongoing issue over
the last 4 years - you may have seen the articles in the local press on this.
This was originally raised by members of the Woodlands Residents Association,
who could not walk safely with their children to Moreland Drive School. It
was identified as a safety issue in the School Travel Plan, and also
supported by a petition from children and parents. Many parents drive to
school because they are afraid to walk with their children across the bridge.
Safety issues, particularly for children, are a priority for the Parish
Council. We have therefore visited Mill Lane to meet with parents and
children, who walk regularly to and from school via the bridge.
The Parish Council organised a survey by BCC Highways, which concluded that
there are serious safety issues for pedestrians. When the bridge was rebuilt
recently, we asked Network Rail to include a footbridge, which they were
unable to provide.
Due to the lack of progress and the ongoing pressure from the school and
residents, the Parish Council has again taken this up with BCC, which is the
Highways Authority. Their consultants have advised us that the lack of
approaches at either end of the bridge would make a footbridge prohibitively
expensive and advised as to look at traffic lights instead. As a result, we
have now commissioned a feasibility study with BCC to look at this in more
detail.

I have just read the January 2012 publication of Voice by Gerrards
Cross Parish Council Newsletter and am stunned that you have advised that
Howards Wood Drive has been resurfaced when it most definitely has not!!!!
The residents of Howards Wood Drive have petitioned and attempted to get the
road resurfaced over the years due to the dangerous potholes (approx 45 at
last count), numerous times I have seen near accidents where cars have
swerved to miss potholes and almost had head on collisions with cars coming
in the opposite direction, not to mention people (including children) on
bikes I've witnessed fall off bikes or have near misses with cars again
swerving to miss the potholes.
I'm assuming that there has been an oversight and that the publication was
printed ahead of the work being carried out so assume, the work will be
carried out within this years budgets?

Delighted you are considering exercise equipment on East Common and see link
below for equipment I saw in Greenwich at weekend.

I am strongly in favour of the electronic database you are proposing.
If this goes ahead it will allow the council to get feedback on many issues
before they come to a decision.
An obvious one is the rejection of change of use from old Martin's newsagents, it seemed to many of us that a restaurant
would be a good idea.
However we have no explanation as to why it was rejected.

When I read the January issue of VOICE, I was delighted to see,
under Other Highway Developments, (Road Resurfacing) that this work had now
been carried out on Howards Wood Drive.
I rushed to the front door, expecting see a lovely, smooth,
unbroken road surface'
What I actually found, was the same, old, broken, potholed
surface, we had had to put up with, for at least the last two years.
