Parish News Update - August 2011

At the last election, your Parish Council was fortunate to have new dynamic members joining the team for the 4 years of work that lies ahead, which includes the changes that the new Localism Bill will introduce.

Besides the routines of running the village, we also have a number of ongoing campaigns. These include our opposition to the proposed High Speed 2 railway, addressing the serious safety and congestion issues with the new Packhorse Road traffic lights and working with Bucks County Council to conclude the Street Light Switch Off trial that finishes in September.

On the Highways front, we now have an £8000 devolved budget from BCC, which allows us to undertake some of the Highways tasks, such as clearing vegetation and cleaning road signs. Results from this so far include clearing the cycleway on Oxford Rd and cutting back the overgrown vegetation that was narrowing the roadway on Marsham Lane. Combined with the new budget that BCC for repairing potholes, our Highways are now starting to show much need improvements.

We were pleased to be sponsors of the successful Summer Fair organised by the Community Association, where we organised the musical entertainment and sponsored the bouncy castle and the climbing frame.

The Council is very concerned about the number of serious accidents on the A413 over the last few years. Along with Denham and Chalfont St Peter Parish Councils, we will be meeting with Peter Hardy, the BCC Cabinet member for transportation in September to see what can be done to improve safety on this road.

All our Parish Council meetings and Committee meetings are open to the public. As always, residents are welcome to attend these meeting and have their say. We have made changes to the format to make these easier to understand, so do come along and see what is going on in your village.
